Below are several reasons to join us at the Oconto Yacht Club.

Oconto Yacht Club – Summer Time

The Oconto Yacht Club is located on approximately 9 acres. This property contains many trees, and most of the area is a park like setting. Each slip has a generous “Green Space” with picnic table close by. OYC members pride themselves in the clubs appearance and most have flower gardens by their slips. The club has slips on the River and the Lagoon sections. Each slip has parking in front of it, and there is plenty of parking for guests.

This is a nice example of the park-like areas you will have to enjoy your day. Many members keep their own grills in their area. There are picnic tables provide by the club, they are located by the slips. Many new tables were added in 2008. Often the kids or grand-kids will set up a tent and spend a night.

Another nicely shaded area. Often the evening before we leave for a weekend the members will get together for a grill out. Along with the member’s personal grills in their own areas the club has a large grill we use when there are a large number present.

Pets Are Welcome

Most of the members have pets and they are allowed at OYC if they are social and the owners pick-up after them. The members have all types, small and large, they are a large part of our club. The pets usually come with on our outings, most marinas on the Bay are pet friendly.

The Lagoon

This was taken from the north end of the Lagoon. OYC has it’s own dredge and the Lagoon and channels are dredged annually to a minimum depth of 6′. The club is comprised of both power-boaters and sail-boaters. We have always had a nice mixture of both types of vessels.

Horseshoe Island – Fourth of July 2008

We had 10 of the clubs boats on the wall on Horseshoe Island. The Island is a favorite trip for the club members and we make at least one weekend trip a year.

Menominee Marina

Another favorite stop with the club members is the Menominee Marina. They have excellent facilities at this marina. Very clean restroom and showers. The Belgian waffles for breakfast are super, and there are many nice eating places close by. They had the old car show in the park on our first trip in 2008.

Harvest Festival – Sturgeon Bay

We spent the weekend at the Stone Harbor Marina. A very nice facility and a short walk to the festival held downtown. They have a nice car show, many booths, a farmer’s market, and all the food stands a person would need. In the evening they set up a band on the street, served some adult beverages, and we all had a great time. We liked it so much we plan on adding it as one of our trips.

Oconto Yacht Club – Winter

This is the club with all the vessels in winter storage. When it’s time to come out there is a public ramp a short distance down river from the club. If you are going to store on blocks and jacks you can schedule a haul-out with one of the four members who operate the lift. There are always members around to help. Normally most pull their boats the weekend before the Fall Work Party. At that time most power-wash the vessel, the club has a power washer if you do not. We help each other shrink wrapping our boats.

OYC – A Working Club

OYC is a working club, we have two work parties a year. One in spring and one in the fall. The docks are put in or out, the club house cleaned inside and out, yard work is done. Painting and repairs are made. For those who cannot attend the work party, make-up work will be assigned.
Most repairs are made by club members, as is the upkeep of the club house and grounds. Members are responsible for the immediate area by their slips. This is what allows us to keep our prices down.

Members bring a dish to pass and we have a great lunch after the work party.
